The Social Security Benefits Process

The Federal government provides two programs for persons who are unable to work due to disability or illness:

Social Security Disability - pays benefits to persons who have worked sufficient time periods to be insured.

Supplemental Security Income - pays benefits to persons who have not worked enough to qualify for social security disability and in some cases may apply to both in appropriate situations.
